Download Time Calculator
With this tool, you can calculate the download time of the file by specifying your internet speed and the size of the file you want to download. Note that the tool gives theoretical results. The time may vary depending on the status of your internet connection and the file provider's connection. (A maximum of one month of downloads can be calculated.)
Expected Download Time Duration :
17 Minutes 4 Seconds
Download Time Formula
Duration(seconds) = | File Size (Byte) |
Download Speed (bit / second) / 8 |
(Prefixes such as K, M, G are calculated as a multiple of 1024(2^10) for both inputs. Since 1 Byte = 8 bits, the download speed given in bits is converted to Byte/second by dividing by 8.)
For example, to calculate how long it will take for a 1GB file to download with an average connection speed of 16 Mbps, use the formula below:
Duration(seconds) = | 1 * 10243 | = 512 seconds = 8 minutes 32 seconds |
16 * 10242 / 8 |
The prefixes Kilo, Mega and Giga are symbols that represent multiples of 10^3 in the SI unit system. However, since computers use the binary number system, the prefixes KiBi (Kilo Binary), MeBi, and GiBi, which are the 2^10 equivalents of these symbols, are frequently used. At the same time, the abbreviations K, M, G, which are multiples of 10^3 in the SI unit system, can also be preferred to indicate the size of storage units and network speeds. Note that this tool bases both prefixes indicating network speed and file size on 1024, which is 2^10. The 2.4% difference between 1000 and 1024 can cause significant errors in prefixes such as Giga and Tera, as prefixes grow exponentially. For more accurate results, make sure the values of internet speed and file size.
